POEM STARTER
Create a narrative poem telling the story of a family heirloom, passed down through generations. Consider how its meaning and value change over time with the course of the narrative.
Red Riding Book
Snarling boy snarling no more,
Bathing cold on the pavement, in gore.
Frozen girl, freckled with red.
Writes her sins in a book next to bed.
Charity, Rubbish, Keep. Three categories.
Thus erasing two-thirds of history.
In a dark corner lies another book.
It thuds in "Charity" box, after one look.
Red leather collects dust. She wipes her hands.
They're stained red.
Redhead boy, goes to the charity shop in times of strife
Finds a red book that cost someone their life.
He opens it.
