Nerves
*deep breath*
"Um, hello everyone. I, um, just wanted to start, uh, by saying that" *pause* "that I'm glad for everyone being able to make it" *smiles in embarrassment at the awkward sentence*
"So, uh, I just wanted... I'm very thankful to be receiving this award for Highest Customer Engagement." *smiles nervously, feeling undeserving of the award*
"For those of you who don't know me, I, well I am new to the company this year, so, yeah, again, very thankful. Uh, I enjoy the work I've done so far here" *internally knows it's a lie*. "I've put a lot of work in since starting" *cringes a bit*, "and I couldn't have done it without my mentors," *pause*," uh, Matt and Noah! Thanks to the both of you!"
*pauses, face getting red*
"Um, anyways, I've learned a lot so far and I think this role has helped me develop more upon my soft skills... and I'm glad to be able to contribute to the company!" *weak smile*
"Again, couldn't thank you enough for voting for me" *voice is shaky*
"So, uh, yeah, thanks"
The young man ends his speech looking at the reflection of himself in his bedroom mirror. He brings his hand up to his face, feeling the burning red of his cheek. His sleeve wrinkles with his raised arm, causing the suit to be pulled up with it, making his outfit look awkward and ill fitted. With his toes curled up into the carpet of his bedroom floor, he gives his reflection a look of disapproval. His eyes shift to the reflection of the wall calendar behind him, the sharp red circle of tomorrow's date catching his gaze. Anxiety flows through his body once more.
