STORY STARTER

Submitted by Quill To Page

Write a short story or poem that starts with a letter.

It can be a death threat or a love letter, a mission or a murder. It could be any letter, but make it integral to the story.

for everything

Dear Victoria,

I'm sorry. For everything. I have to leave.

I love you.

- Amanda

As Victoria glances over the letter, in all of its minimal glory, she's outraged.

How could Amanda just leave her like this?

She had told her that they would make it work, that they could, and Amanda hadn't believed her. Really, it was Victoria's fault for believing that she would listen. Amanda's never been particularly reliable.

They were supposed to be married today.

And Victoria had ruined it with her jealousy.

Amanda had told her that her coworker was just a friend, had told her a thousand times, and she hadn't trusted her. Maybe that was the first red flag; Victoria had no faith in her partner that she would stay loyal. So maybe it was her fault. Maybe Amanda was never cheating on her, maybe she was just paranoid.

But then why write 'for everything?' Why not just write 'oh, sorry for leaving you on our wedding day, I couldn't take it anymore?'

What if, included in that 'everything,' was a confession?
