Framed in blood

Mav ducked under a low-hanging light. His shoelace fell untied but he couldn't stop. Not when they were chasing him.

"STOP RIGHT THERE!" The officers yelled behind him. Mav swerved around a corner, nearly tripping over his feet. He ducked behind a tall piece of machinery. Struggling to keep his breathing steady, Mav lowered himself to the ground and clawed his way into a crack in the wall. The footsteps were getting closer. He couldn't crawl fast enough. "THERE!" Mav quickly pulled himself out of the wall and into a courtyard. Suddenly, a nasty-looking police dog came running from around the corner. Mav ran for his life.

Heart pumping and chest heaving, Mav's feet pounded the ground. He was heading straight towards the chain link fence that surrounded the factory. Five meters, two meters, one meter, he was going to make it. Suddenly, three gunshots were fired from the other side of the yard.

Mav felt the hard bullet sink into the meaty part of his leg. He screamed out, falling to the ground. "Heel!" Yelled the police officer to the dog, who was now only growling at Mav. Mav tried to move, but it was no use. He couldn't feel his legs.
