Once upon a midnight dreary,
As I pondered weak and weary…..
I know indeed that’s Poe, but that’s how my story started…
It was 3 days ago, August 14, 1923. I sat at my desk racking my brain for an idea. Any idea. Something that I could make a story of. After all, my deadline was approaching rapidly and I hadn’t even 𝙗𝙚𝙜𝙪𝙣 to write my poem for the paper.

Here I am, just walking through an open field, with 𝙣𝙤 𝙤𝙣𝙚 around me.
𝙣𝙤 𝙤𝙣𝙚…., I keep repeating to myself.
So why did I have the distinct eerie sensation, that 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙤𝙣𝙚 was watching me.
I stood still in my path. A branch snapped.
A 𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙝? In a 𝙛𝙞𝙚𝙡𝙙?
I glance around quickly. There’s 𝙣𝙤 𝙤𝙣𝙚 but me…right?
A cold wind came out of no where, so I pulled...
“Please just quit. Don’t go back to the trail, please,” she said earnestly. Her tender gray eyes moved his heart halfway to heaven and back.
“I have to. But I promise, that this is the last time I’ll go. After this I’m quittin’ and I’ll come back here to live,” he resolved.
“You promise?” She asked. Her eyes were glassy and her voice pleading.
“I promise.”

She ran through the woods till her feet started to falter. Her breath stole from her body with each one she took. She must get to him. She must warn him.
A large moss-covered log loomed up in her path. She could easily jump over it, or could she? No time to think now!
