Cold water feels warm when you’re freezing.

A stale piece of bread is life giving when you’re starving.

What they don't tell you,

Is that you can’t warm a freezing person quickly.

You can’t give a starving person a normal sized meal.

For us to keep the pain away,

For us to keep the person here,

Healing is slow,

Gentle.

We accept the small pieces of bread.

And though the cold water may feel warm for a while.

Eventually the cold water will feel cold because you’re no longer freezing.
