From the beginning of time we have been telling stories from one generation to the next. Cavemen drew pictures on walls, to capture events in their lives, skills were learnt and passed on by artworks.
Throughout the world from the drawing of time, in every corner of the world.. stories have been told.
They offer us guidance and teachings..intrigue, amusement and sheer delight.
Everyone loves a good story, they evoke an emotional response within us. Some stories touch our soul.. others make us laugh others make us cry, but what all good stories do is leave a lasting impression. They change us, shape us and many have the ability to transform the way we think and feel.
Stories are magical.
Today in modern society stories are all around us, whether that is told by journalists in the local or national news. Screen writers and directors use the medium of film. Radio and television, social media, songs and books. All have the stories they tell in common. We love them and lap them up. No matter what the genre there will be an audience ranging from the youngest to the very oldest. From Disney to horror, princess’s to action adventure. Some of the oldest stories we know are those we have been told in our own cultures, as very small children, Tales from Hans Christian Andersen or the Bible. In turn we celebrate theses stories at events throughout the year passing on the traditions and stories to the next generation. Who cannot be moved by your young children reenacting scene of the nativity. A story so well engrained into our minds.. which we hear every year. It’s quite amazing how a different story telling can réveil something different every time you hear it.
Stories can become all consuming.. we are all addicted to the plot and the outcome. You hear the little whispers in the office blocks, wanting to share in the delights of the latest thriller.

Greedily we all gorged on the latest releases, throwing ourselves in the the sumptuous make believe worlds of Bridgerton, Queens Gambit and The One. Clamouring for the latest season of Line of Duty and the last ever season of Schitts Creek and Spiral. Fans recoiled from the pain of seeing their beloved hero and heroine walking off into the discover never to be seen again. Our virtual lives spent through the lives of the protagonist. So where does it leave us... as the pandemic ends.
Storytelling will continue that is true, whatever medium is used. Stories will always be there to capture our hearts like they did at the beginning of time.
It is a constant and will always remain. It has its own beauty and something we all take for granted. But perhaps this pandemic has shown us... is how telling stories are what make us human and bind us together.
