The chilling grass cools my back, sending a wave of shivers up my spine. My fingers spread open to grasp, a chunk of the green, musky earth hairs. I stare up at the colours, violet, blue, and green, whisking in the sky. My cheeks tug the corners of my mouth up, ever so slightly…While soft chuckles brush past my lips, with glee.
nimble bee
hum’s at the beginning
of the rains
in the paddy fields
where the lavender girl
and little brother
moves under the bees
clapping wings
boxing through
heavy rainfall
of the misty morning
a crack in the planet
is all she could hear
after the Plink noise
that drowned her ears
her tortured eyes
screaming
breath trembling
as his thick blood welled out of him
his breathing
continued without pause
evaporating
her every thought
while the hunter straightened up
a cold thief
without the intention / of being so
Where the rice grows
A layer of rime ice, covered an archaic man made tunnel as a blanket… while water drops fell from the pointed ice fingers, that hung from above. They reflected a sliver of white light, mirroring down into the puddles that had formed in the crevices of the stone ground. The water droplets whispered in the echos, escaping through the other-side, of the grimy narrow tunnel of bricks.
Leather shielded a young boys feet, as his curiosity pushed him deeper and deeper into the cold muggy tunnel. The further he journeyed in, the darker it got, and the more forgotten he became. Nights tuned to days, then weeks, soon months went by... then a year. when the tunnel finally spat him out, his toes had sliced open his leather shoes and poked themselves out. His curly hair was now a brown afro drowning his dirty face. As he slid his chipped fingers through the tall grass, he smiled up at the moon and stars with his yellow bitters, then began howling in the night for the victory of his freedom.
A couple was parked up at Make-out point about a mile up the road and heard his cheers,
“Oouuuuuuuuu”
The couple froze with their lips smooshed together,
“did you hear that?” Tate mumbled. Pulling their lips apart they listened again
“Oouuu ouu ouu ouuuuuuu”
Their eyes widened. “Mia let’s get the frick out of here” she nodded in agreement then started up her car. Spinning her tires, the gravel spat up out of a light smoke hitting the sides of her jeep
“Get out of Neutral you dummy!” Tate shouted out of fear, while adrenaline pulsed through him.
Mia swung her head with a glare proceeding to back out of the parking spot. She sped out as fast as she could up the highway. Racing past the pine trees, they kept a sharp eye out for the cause of that terrifying howl.
“Do you see that?” Mia said with concentration, pointing her eyes to the right side of the road, a few feet ahead of them.
Tate squinted his eyes but couldn't quite see what Mia was talking about.
“Oh my god, I think it”s bigfoot” she spoke with slight excitement. Tate rolled his eyes and shook his head “really, really this again, it's not big-foot..bigfoot isn't real, you idiot”
“he’s real Tate, you don’t know anything!” Mia argued briefly, when suddenly Tate screamed out her name. Mia slammed on the brakes, their bodies swooped forwards bashing their heads onto the dash, while something tumbled over the roof of the car. Mia and Tate focused on each other’s eyes for a second in silence. Opening her door slightly Mias jeep began to beep no louder than a whisper breaking the silence, her gaze left Tates eyes while she jumped out to see if she had just hit big-foot.
Mias heart skipped as she moved slowly towards the trunk. Tate hopped out and sped to the back, they poked their heads around the corner at the same time and gasped, seeing that they had just hit the lost boy who went missing a year ago, everyone in Grovens Hale had been talking about the poor smiths family for month’s now. Mia called 911 in a panic.
“Good luck explaining this'' Tate said, making a smug face, pinching the edge of his nose. Mia looked up at him with furrowed brows. As she was on the phone Tate grabbed a stick nearby and poked the boy bleeding out on the middle of the road,
“stop, what are you doing!” Mia pulled his arm back frustrated, sigh “The ambulance is on their way.” she said quietly slipping her phone into her jean pockets. after a moment of silence Tate spoke, “he looks like a werwolf” he declared hovering over the boy. “ya, i wonder what happened to him.” Mia studied the boy intensely, with curiosity.
