My footsteps are drowned out by the city below as I sprint across rooftops, my arms spread out like wings. My heart pounds in my ears, and my legs start to ache. I almost pause, but the sound of voices behind me pushes me to go faster, the winds starting to howl around me.
I leap off the roof and snag a zipline with my right hand, my glove allowing me to fly through the air, above the market below. The shoppers below completely ignore me, the ziplines being a commonly used mode of travel in the city.
The zipline suddenly veers to the left, off the side of the mountain. A laugh bubbles up from my throat, and I swing my legs slightly to make adrenaline rush through my body.
Once the zipline reaches the next mountain I hop off, landing on the street that picks up right where it left off on the other side. I glance back to see my friends following quickly, and I dash through the crowd shopping around me, quickly apologizing to anyone I bump into.
The street opens up to a giant plaza, filled with statues and surrounded by temples. The largest is the temple for Aves, goddess of the air and sky, and guardian of the city of Aquila. I take a deep breath, appreciating the light breeze before I run on. (Possible start for a longer story idea.)
