The day started like every other, or so it seemed... Lea woke up and yawned, "ugh." she looked at her watch. Instantly the whole day changed for the worse. She stared at her watch, jumping off the bed she looked it again, "what?!? 10:30!? Crap! This is NOT good." She worked at a coffee shop and was supposed to be them thirty minutes ago. She raced to her dresser and yanked out and t-shirt and a pair of blue jeans. Pulling them on on her way to the bathroom. She looked in the mirror and gasped barely recognizing herself. There were dark circles under her eyes and her shoulder length hair was standing straight up. She sighed and grabbed her brush yanking it thru her hair. She had stayed up till five in the morning watching reality shows, "why do those always get me?" she grumbled. After somewhat making her head look presentable Lea ran to the kitchen. She opened the fridge, "what? Where's all the food?" she frantically searched the cupboards when she remembered, she raced back to her bedroom on her bed and her floor there was empty food containers and chip bags everywhere. She sighed, frustrated. Guess I'll have to eat at the shop. The coffee shop was three blocks away and she ran the whole way. Due to lack of sleep and overeating last night she was exhausted when she reached it. She stumbled inside and hurriedly grabbed an apron and went behind the counter there were already several people there and they were all staring at her curiously. Her cheeks flushed as she realized this she was not an outgoing persnature nature in fact she was quite shy. She made herself an expresso and went to wait on the customers. Once the busy morning had quieted into the less busy afternoon her best friend Elsie, cornered her wiping her hands on her apron she demanded, "why are you so late?!" "Don't tell me you were watching those ridiculous reality shows again." Elsie warned. "yes I was watching those 'ridiculous' reality shows again." replied Lea. "don't look at me like that. They're interesting!" she defended. "ya, let me guess you stayed up till midnight watching them?" asked Elsie. "5:00 to be exact" replied Lea a little sheepishly. Elsie shook her head and opened her mouth to speak when the bell clanged and another customer walked in. "wow, look at him. He looks like an arrogant but rich business man." whispered Elsie. "You help him, I don't want to get yelled at." "hey I was the one up till 5:00." protested Lea. "that's your fault." Elsie replied grinning and sauntering away. Lea walked up the man, "what can I get you?" she asked. The man looked at her then at the menu Lea's eyes drooped, "what was taking him so long?" her eyes closed. The man finally spoke but Lea in her sleepy state only heard half of what he was saying. "I want a large Carmel mocha iced with two extra shots of expresso also extra ice please and add a pump of vanilla and white chocolate syrup to that please." Lea looked at him for a while trying to process what he had said... A large white chocolate mocha with two extra pumps of vanilla and Carmel and an one extra shot of expresso and... "what waiting for?" The man barked. Lea glared at him not in the mood to be bossed around. She turned and started making the drink. She added extra ice and handed it to the man. She counted out his change and handed it to him. "have a great day sir." she said. He turned and went out the door. Elsie walked up to her "soooo, you didn't get yelled at?" "well..." Lea was cut off by the door being yanked open and slammed shut again. They both looked up and saw the man standing there furious and holding out the drink that Lea had made for him. "huh?" Lea looked at him. He started walking towards her and slammed the drink down on the counter. "huh?" Lea said again. "oh boy," whispered Elsie. "huh?" Lea was still half asleep.
Lisselle stopped at the top of the stairs looking down into the basement, the basement she had had no knowledge of until recently. In fact not until he dad had passed away and the whole family had been searching for his will which he had hidden.
No one in the family knew about this basement except for her. She had discovered it yesterday while searching for he father's will. It was odd know one knew of it.
Oh well she thot. She took a deep breath and started to descend down the steep old-fashioned steps. She held the torch she had brought with her in front of her. As she reached the bottom she took a deep breath and looked around it was dark and itsy smelling. It was mostly empty except for a lone chest in one corner. She slowly moved towards it. She extended her hand to open it and found it was locked.
"seriously," she thot to herself.
She got up and moved around the room searching for the key. It was no where to be found. Suddenly she remembered something.
One day she had walked into her father's office and he had been shit at his desk deep in thought. There had been a key dangling from his fingers as soon as he had seen her he jumped and quickly hid the keys in his drawer. At first Lisselle had thought nothing of it, but now she wondered was that the key? What else could it be for? The family had kept no keys except for the in the cupboard by the kitchen for the front door.
Lisselle moved to go back up the stairs when she tripped. She screamed as she dropped the torch. The walls of the basement were wood, and old wood at the. She scrambled around trying to get back up the stairs. The torch had now caught the walls afire and I was starting to burn quickly. Lisselle got up once more and tried to move towards the stairs, but just before she got there it was engulfed in flames.
"oh crap," she thought and screamed internally.
She looked around for another out but found none. She was almost about to give up all hope when her eyes landed on the chest. It was creaking and groaning. Lisselle stared at it. All of a sudden it started to move towards her. She gasped but was to stunned to move away as it slowly crept closer and closer, groaning and moaning with every movement.
And the chest stopped just in of her she stretched out her hand to touch the lock as she did so lid sprang open causing Lisselle to scream involuntarily and cover her eyes.
There was a loud gurgling sound and Lisselle felt a drop of water on her cheek. "what the hell?" she thought. "how is it raining inside?!?"
She uncovered her eyes and lifted her head. Her mouth dropped in amazement. The chest which had been opened was now spewing water in all directions. However even though there was water shooting past her so close she only felt and occasionally drop now and then.
She looked around the fire was dying down. Soon it was out all together, and the chest stopped spraying water and sat there still opened. Lisselle took another deep breath and looked inside. She frowned when all she saw was a folded paper. She reached inside and took it out. Unfolding it she gasped and covered her mouth in astonishment.
