I stand there looking at him blankly. “What do you mean? I can kill her, finally!” I say to my friend Anna, who stands behind me.“They will be after us big time, what are you talking about!” Anna exclaims. I turn back to the man who swears I won’t be caught. “I want a magic staff!” I finally shout to the man, “can’t catch me if it’s not real!” “Are you sure?” Anna and the man say. “Of course I’m sure, I am desperate after all. Anyways what shall I call you sir?” “My name is Matrix and I will find you when it’s ready.” I nod and Anna and I walk back towards the party where we pretend everything is normal.
The next day I woke up and walked to work like normal. The day after that was normal too. I decided to stop thinking about the staff and how much I could hurt him, but it wasn’t just me that changed, I noticed everybody soon forgot all about the party. “Hey Nalla, when is your next party? It’s been years since we got together and talked!” Amber exclaimed as I walked into the bar. Amber had a beer in her hand but soon threw it away. I told her not now and walked straight up to the bartender. “How goes it Nalla?” Jeff asks. “You, me, car, now!” I say through gritted teeth. “What’s up?” He asks. “Your dealer hasn’t come through!” I say as calmly as possible. “He will don’t worry Nalla. Now did you only ask me to the car for that?” He says and quirks his eyebrow. “Yes,” and I get out afraid that I might care to much.
The next day I get stopped by my boyfriend, “what’s wrong, you haven’t talked to me in a long time. Am I not good enough?” He adds jokingly. I tell him I haven’t felt good and kiss him before making up something to escape.
Over the next week I wait patiently. I soon realize it’s not coming, until the next day. When I wake up I can tell it’s not a normal day. I walk out to take out the trash and then it’s there. Sitting by the enormous can. I pick it up. Damn it! What do I do now?
“We have to give it back!” I yell at him for like the tenth time. “No we don’t, I keep telling you I won it fair and square!” He yells back. The gauntlet lays there, looking, no staring at us. I glance at it and I get a bad feeling, “Alex, what did you do to get this?” I immediately ask. He glances at it then back at me. “I did what I had to. To protect you, to protect us!” “How could you be so stupid? You didn’t have to hurt anyone!” I yell. “How do you know what I did?” He smirks “you were here, safe.” “You know I can’t stay mad when you give me that goofy smile.” I say smiling for a second then realizing the situation. Then as fast as light my head begins to buzz. “What’s wrong Aquaria?” He asks seriously. “It’s another vision thing.” I answer slowly. Images come at me fast and bright. First my mother and my father fighting. The empty gauntlet holder and museum it was in. The last image was very blurry. It was gone by the time I realized what it was. “What did you see?” He asks curiously. “The merworld is in trouble again.”
“He watch’s from afar. What shall we do about him?” Penny, my dear sister asks me. “Well we could always keep him around.” Then we laugh. I’m Margaret and my sister, Penny and I are on our way to New Orleans to meet the infamous voodoo queen; Helena. This man watches us as we walk down the street. It makes us wish he weren’t. He starts to walk over then stops as if he just remembered something. We turn down the alleyway and wait a few seconds; seeing if he’ll come to us. A big booming voice yells “Hey over there! I see you and I want to help you!” We turn around and it’s the man that watched us walk here. “And your name is?” Penny asks, walking up to the man. “Alex, I’ve been watching and if you are who I believe you are, well then I would love to be your friend and partner.” Alex says genuinely. “And what do you believe we are sir?” I say. “Well that’s the trick. Most people would pass you off as normal people. I on the other hand believe you are the daughters of Vincent the Voodoo man, and I also believe you are looking for madam Helena. Am I correct?” Alex says. We look at each other for about 10 seconds when Penny answers “That is correct but your missing a piece. Why are we coming here again? Margaret, what time is it?” “It’s 3:05 in the afternoon, Penny dear.” I say. “You are here for Madam Helena she told me nothing else about you. The passage is right this way.” We look at each other and relax, knowing that all will be ok now.
In the blue mist, the old dreary bank stood. Beckoning me in with a whisper, come closer. I walked just a step and no more, because I was forewarned. I didn’t listen, I kept walking faster and faster. The bribe pulling me in was just that of security. I looked right, then left. No one was around. No one to see me walk up to the bank. A few more feet the bank called to me. The blue mist was getting closer and closer. It wrapped around me like a security blanket, nice and secure. And I stopped. I listened as well. Silence. I could hear nothing but my own soft breathing. Then a shout and a scream. I yelled “whose there” but no one answered. I felt something touch my shoulder and I screamed and turned. There stood my mother. She tells me to go, run back! But I am frozen. She has been dead for a year now and yet there she is. I can no longer see the bank but when I turn back to mother, she is gone. I look around and the mist is turning purple. The light is reaching in and pulling me out. And then all goes black.
I have done it! I have cursed the land! But, yawn it’s pitch black outside. I am tired. I have somehow cursed myself too. Wait, is the moon moving very fast or is it something else? I am so tired now. The black is engulfing me. I swallow the darkness and am out. But before I go I have something to tell you: In the future six women and one boy will yawn be here to awake us. That future may be close or maybe far, I don’t know. What I do know is nothing else. Please forgive me but I must sleep now.
Karma, the thing that holds the universe together, is after me. Whether I’m on its good side or not, it’s always there. I feel it’s gnashing teeth upon my heart. My boyfriend broke up with me and he’s with another girl, breathe My dog died, breathe I have insomnia, breathe and finally I believe I can do anything! “Depending on which side you’re on, karma can be a beautiful thing.”
