For the past week, I’ve had this strange feeling whenever I’d be around my boyfriend, Dean. He’s been acting weird, and not his usual weird.
I haven’t thought to mention it to him since, maybe he’s just stressed from the amount of work he has seeing as he spends a lot more time at work nowadays.
We’re currently sitting on the couch, watching and episode of friends on the tv in our shared apartment. All of a sudden his phone starts blowing up with notifications.
He looks at it and tries to discreetly tilt the phone away from my view, which I find odd because we’re never secretive with each other so I ask, “Who is it?”
“No one important babe.” He replies as though nothing had happened and then continues to watch the episode.
“Okay, if you say so.” I say, before the his phone pings again and again and again. He checks it, replies and then places it down infront of him on the couch, faced down.
This is weird, his behaviour seems off. After a while he goes to use the bathroom. I wouldn’t usually do this, but I have a gut feeling that I need to check to see who it is.
We trust each other, or so I thought, so we know each others phone passwords, meaning it was easy for me to access his phone. I check his notifications and I see at the top of his messages is Melissa.
Before I can even open it, deans already infront of me and I’m unsure of what to do when he catches me snooping through his phone. “Why are you on my phone?” He asks as he sits down on the couch.
“Who’s Melissa?” I answer his question with my own question.
“We’re you snooping? What the fuck! What happened to trusting each other?” He asked as he stood up and pulled his phone out of my grasp.
“Who is she huh? If she’s not ‘important’ then why are being so secretive and weird?”
“Oh for gods sake, I was gonna surprise you with a ski trip, Melissa owns a cabin rental and I thought that I could rent it for us to stay at for the trip.” He says as he opens up his phone and taps on his and Melissa’s chat. “Here, go through it if you want, I’m going for a walk.”
The door slams shut as he exits the apartment.
I sit there stunned. He’s never raised his voice, even though he wasn’t being in any way aggressive more disappointed in me. I feel the exact same way towards myself. I shouldn’t have assumed, and I definitely should not have went through his phone without his permission.
What did I just do.
The rain travelled its journey down the window pane as the weather outside worsened. The girl looks around one last time, at the home she’s spent the last 18 years living in.
Her childhood home will forever hold a special place in her heart. Although they aren’t the wealthiest family, the Henderson’s have made it a special place for both their friends and family.
To Sophie, the house means more than just four walls and a roof. The memories she’s obtained over the years are what she holds dear to her heart.
From the first time she watched her younger brother Josh, take his first steps, to the time when she perfected a famous family dish.
The emotions that ran through her as she did a final walk around the house, starting from the front door to the kitchen, she even opened the door to the toilets just to have a final look around before she left for college.
Not everyone gets emotional when they first leave home, and although this isn’t a final goodbye to the house, it’s still been an important factor in her life.
She heads up the stairs until she reaches the first bedroom, which was Josh’s room. He was inside, playing a game on his as he laid on top of his bed.
“Dad’s putting the last few things in the car, you better get your shoes on if you want to come with.” Sophie says as she peeps her head through the crack in the door so that she could see him and the room as well.
Although it’s small, she cherished the room like it was a palace, the amount of time that she’s spent in her bedroom either studying or reading or simply just sleeping is more than enough. But will she miss this room when she’s staying in her dorm room? Yes. Yes she will.
Sophie quickly looks around and checks to see if she’s missed anything and luckily she hasn’t. Turning around she goes back downstairs and to the entrance of the house.
Her mom was just putting her coat on as Sophie made it to the front door. “The rains picked up, you’ll need a coat.”
“I can’t believe I’m going to college and leaving all of this behind.” Sophie spoke as she grabbed her shoes and put them on before slipping her arms into the coat.
“Time flies by in a blink of an eye.” He mother replied before she shooed the two children to the car.
As she left the house, she said a final goodbye, before her dad drove the family to Sophie’s new college.
