“Finally!” I yelled out the open car window out into the world as the contengious wind came in making my hair fly further back into the car.
My heart was pounding with adrenaline. I have waiting for this day since the first day I heard those misogynistic idiots chuckle at my ideas.
I have been working as an assistant in that office to earn enough money to finally scrape a trip to Europe. I’ve wanted this trip since I can remember.
And even though thoose jerks made it hard, and they made it very hard, I kept going.
Through every biased comment, though every oddly specific coffee order. I kept going.
My cheeks start hurting from smiling.
I’m going to Europe.
I have been falling for a few minutes.
When they said they were going to throw me in a well, I might have thought they were joking.
They weren’t.
I guess those tyrants would do anything to demonstrate their power.
I hit the hard ground unexpectedly. The impact incapacitated my body, not allowing me to move.
The crown will do anything to solidify their rule.
I guess I should have thought of that before I attempted to steal the crown jewel.
Too bad they didn’t pat me down before they threw me in.
I use all my strength to push out all of the power I can. This is what I’ve been training for my whole life.
The fire overpowers and I think I’m gonna win, until water comes back.
“Just give up,” I hear the voice that I have been training against my whole life against.
“Ha, you first,” I start walking sideways in the big circle and spat out a bit of fire towards him.
I heard him hiss. Then laugh.
“Alright,” he said putting his hands down which ends the strain against my fire. He steps aside quickly. “I forfeit,”
“What?” I choose not to give into hope. I of my hands down as well putting out the stream of fire.
“I forfeit, you win,” he said with a sigh. The mist from our battle raining down on us. I hit him with a confused look.
His hands were shaking. I have no idea what I did to make him this nervous.
“Join me, you being the princess of fire, me being the prince of water. We would be unstoppable, join me Elizabeth,”
I laugh out loud.
He shoots me a glare.
“You’re serious,” I say with laughter still in my voice, out of all the ways this battle was supposed to end, this was not on my mind.
“I am assuming that is a no, well I thought might as well give it a chance,”
“Yes,” I say shocked with myself. He stared at me shocked as well.
We stare at each other.
All of our lives we have been fighting, he would win some, I would win others.
I hate to admit it but we are the most powerful together.
“For political reasons,” I say quickly.
“For political reasons,” he said grinning.
One more day and they will come.
I stare out the window, sad.
One more day and they will come.
I say this each day willing for it to be true, but days have passed, months, years.
One more day and they will come.
It’s been thirty years to be exact.
One more day and they will come.
No.
In one more day they will not come.
I will not wait any longer.
I wait until the soilders switch out, and once the new soilder is left alone I drop one of my pans down the side of the castle.
I don’t know how but I managed to have perfect aim, hitting the unexpected soilder right in the head.
“Yes!” I yell with a croaky voice and immediately covered my mouth in embarrassment. I haven’t spoken in awhile.
I ran down the stairs with a gun I found under my mothers pillow, I didn’t know how to use it, but it felt like a good bluff.
I pushed against the door, locked. I knew it was going to be locked but I was hoping that maybe just this once it wasn’t.
I pointed the gun at the lock and pulled the trigger.
I flinched back wards. Nothing happened. Pulled the trigger again. Nothing.
What?
“ Why aren’t you working” I mutter under my breath as I flip the gun around in my hand trying to figure out how to use it.
I found a switch on the side and flipped it, and pulled the….
I screamed and swiveled my head upwards to see a bullet hole in the roof.
That could have ended poorly.
I pointed the gun at the lock and pulled the trigger. It didn’t work. Uh…
Oh!
I flipped the switch and shot the handle. The door swung open. Ha! Take that mother.
I stepped slowly over the soilder, and into the spikey green stuff that lined the ground.
I always thought that it would hurt, that’s why mother always wears shoes. I look at the ground and it takes a second for me to figure out what felt wrong.
It’s so itchy!
I hop along the grass onto roots that came up above the ground. I stood for a good minute until I figured out that the root of the tree was poking my feet. I looked around and finally found a smooth rock to jump onto.
Phew. That’s better.
I did it.
Let’s get as far as possible from this tower.
