Ba-dump. I put on my coat and grab my badge, The test results are finally back. I begin to walk to a room that contains, A patient who anxiously awaits.
Ba-dump, ba-dump. My heart beats like a military drum, I’ve seen battle between life and death both lost and won. My palms begin to sweat and my breath starts to quicken, Although I’ve done this many times these are always my symptoms.
Ba-dump, ba-dump, ba-dump. I begin to imagine her reaction as I knock on the door, Will she cry, will she shout, will she fall to the floor? I hear, “Come in,” so I step inside, Prepared to deliver news that’ll change her life.
Ba-dump, ba-dump, ba-dump, ba-dump. Blood pumps quickly through my veins, As she searches my face for any emotion it may contain. Anticipation consumes me but calm is all she sees, As I smile and say, “Congratulations, you’re cancer free.”
