The kitchen is full of shadows.

Dim light peeks through thick, heavy curtains, painting subtle streams on the faded, grave-gray wallpaper that veils the walls. Yellowing white paint peels from cabinets stacked with dusty plates and cobwebbed mugs, and piles of dirty dishes form a wobbling Tower of Pisa in the soapy sink. And on the edge of the chipped veneer table perches a lonely cup of coffee...

From outsider’s perspective, I hope they see my gaze onto you as never ending love. They see it as it is pure, innocent and unconditional. My smile becomes real when I see you, even if it’s through the corner of my eye.

I don’t want them to see it as pain, one sided, or influenced. No negativity should be associated when they look at us, but they do so.

I don’t like the feeling of warm laundry. Having

pruned fingertips can cause me brief paralysis. The tickling of grass blades against my ankles will have me hyper focused on my feet as I walk, sometimes unable to remember to watch where I’m going. A clunky fork can steal my appetite.

Not knowing the sunken feeling I get when people talk about you. I have to sit in the background, no reason for me to be apart of the conversation.

I remember when people were excited to tell me all the good things you’ve done. I was the girl people associate you with and you were the boy people associate me with.

I remember when we were cuddled up on your bed, you playing with my hair, me watching your phone. We were having a conversation. There was this friend, who you did not like, and you were explaining your way of avoiding talking to them.

It sucks now I see your way of avoiding me using the same words and actions you showed them.
