Have you ever thought you’d have to live out your worst nightmare?

Toby is in literal hell. Having to relive his worst moments, regretable choices, and his demons is torture.

Now he knew he wasn’t person of the year but this? He wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

“Toby.”

He whips his head up. What else was there? He already went through his parents deaths again.

“Toby.”

The voice got closer. The smooth, haunting tone stops him dead in his tracks, his breathing stopping. He knows who it is.

“Amelia?”

“You could have saved me, Toby.”

He runs away from the voice but no matter the direction, her presence gets closer.

He couldn’t face her. Not now. Not ever.

“Toby, why did you kill me?”

Spinning on his heels, he turns and comes face to face with a version of his dead sister.

“Amelia, please. I can’t talk about this,” his breathing was becoming labored. Just thinking about it made him spiral.

“Face what you did to me!” He blinks to clear his vision and the open wound around her neck is apparent, blood dripping down.

Fury took over the immense guilt temporarily. It ran through his veins and renewed a fire inside. “What I did? You were trying to kill me! You gave me no choice.”

“So you slit your own sister’s throat?”

“Yes. You were being influenced. I had to do it to set you free.”

There is a void in her eyes, no emotion behind them. He expected anger, but nothing.

“Amelia, I am sorry.”

When he apologized, something changed. Her appearance grew brighter, more normal. Her wound disappeared with a scar in its place. She looked more like he remembered.

She gave a small smile, bittersweet, and then she glowed like the a shining star until he had to close his eyes from the light.

When he opened his eyes, she wasn’t there. He hopes this means that she is at peace.

Maybe there was hope for him.
