I Tried To Warn Them

I tried to warn them weeks ago, when they first approached me with the idea. I don’t like to be the center of attention and this just screamed “ATTENTION!” Something bad was going to happen on that day, I could just feel it. And I needed my family to be as far away from me as possible. But they wouldn’t listen. I can still hear the voices of my family arguing with me on the subject of my birthday. I can especially hear my sister’s voice most of all. “I said no! I really don’t want to!,” I pleaded with my family. “I don’t want to have a birthday party!” “Come on Eleanor, its your 18th birthday, you have to at least want to do something fun. Why not have a party?”my older sister chimed in. It was I could do to keep me from slugging her. She of all people knew how much I hated to be in the spotlight. We play fought, like sisters do. It’s one of the last moments I had with her. We had made a compromise, no surprise party in exchange for a family dinner. Soon after this family meeting, she quickly returned back to school with the promise of being back for my special day. She unfortunately kept her promise, and I didn’t see her till the incident. I never wanted a party, it was just supposed to be dinner. I was caught off guard and It all happened so fast. I entered the pitch dark house and immediately saw a figure standing at the end of the hall. Not thinking I lunged towards them. I remember the piercing screams of terror, my sister’s neck, and the blood. So much blood. Before I could react,a surprise birthday guest gained enough courage to take a kitchen knife and stab me through the chest. I blacked out. I then woke up to a blinding headache, a knife sticking out of my chest and the audible gasps of terror from all those gathered around me. Seeing the puzzled look on their faces left me knowing they weren’t expecting any of what they just witnessed. My blood stained face had my loved ones and friends looking at me warily. As I stared back at them somewhat menacingly, I knew it was no longer safe. They had awoken the beast inside me and there was no stopping it from here. I told them, “This is who I am now, and there is no need to be afraid. I’ll make it quick and painless.”As I stepped forward with my fangs descended. I tried to warn them;that me turning 18 wasn’t going to be ordinary. I tried to warn them. They went ahead and threw me a surprise party anyway. Unfortunately they were surprised the moment they knew they couldn’t kill me. I tried to warn them.
