POEM STARTER
The desert's silence held ancient whispers...
Write a poem using personification to give the desert a voice.
Desert Lament
As the wind rushed by,
Desert sand began to fly
And dance
And prance.
But once this dancing ceased,
The desert was left in quiet peace,
But…
The desert’s silence held ancient whispers.
Whispers of sadness.
If you listened closely,
You would surely hear
The desert sadly shed a tear
As it whispered,
“They’re all gone,
I’m all alone.”
Listen even closer,
Hear the desert sing a song
Of an ancient civilization
That was oh so strong,
But now… was long
Gone.
“I used to be able to smile,
The civilization that sat upon me,
It would stretch for miles.
The people there
Treated my land so well
Oh,
They were ever so swell.
But then one day
It happened,
Their homes were burnt to the ground.
The only sound for a mile
Was their cries as they were
Ruthlessly slaughtered.
And that is why,
Why I can no longer smile.”
That was the desert’s whisper,
It’s ancient, sad lament.
