Even Then, I'll Sing
If my name is called upon your lips
And i am given the gift of breath
Even when
The planes in which i exist
Are of pain and suffering
Even then
I’ll sing for you
I will sing the carful tunes you hum
As you artfully craft
that which i am
Even when
Your hands forge crumpled leaves
The notes will exist within creases
Even then
I will share it
With the passing bee
So that
sturdier things may come to hear it
I would be anything for you
The pen that inks the surface
To share melodies new
Even when
I am born at times of hate
Where melanin traits
Could have me caged
Even then
There will still be beautiful singing
So call onto me
Give me this gift that very few have
Have me be a dreamer
So I may dream this world to living
Maybe then
these tunes won't be forgotten
But even when
I am lost
And have forgotten love’s song
My eyes are that of pain
And a fist is all these hands have known
Even then
A familiar tapping exists within me
It only takes a singing bee to remind me
What I am missing
