Cupid’s Arrow
If Cupid’s arrow creates love,
He must have a cousin whose arrows
Cause pain, shock, horror, and sorrow—Betrayal. For the victim,
He can’t understand what changed so
Suddenly. The one standing befo’
Him is no longer the one he knew.
With a throbbing, bleeding heart,
He reaches out to her, recalling
Memories, speaking in choking
Whispers. How could that mean so
Little to her? The shock of the
Revelation leaves him reeling—guh!
Were that a bullet had pierced him through!
A bullet would be easier
To handle than this, for at least
He wouldn’t have to live with the beast
That tears at him from within. How great
His despair! She was his friend,
His confidante, his lover to the end—
Or so he’d thought. She had used him.
She laughs at his pain, mocks his tears.
The Traitor’s icy arrow has dealt the
Lethal blow.
What they once had lies buried in the snow.
How cold can you be to treat a man so?
