Faded

“We should probably tell her to calm down, shouldn’t we?” Ethan asked.

“Telling a woman like her to calm down is about as useless as baptizing a cat.” Tally said, getting a confused look from Ivory.

“Baptizing a cat..?” She whispered, trying to understand.

“Never mind. My point is, when you mess with Mrs. Hemming, this is what you get.” Tally explained, jumping out of the bushes.

“Wait-“ Ethan slapped his face.

Tally casually walked up to his fuming neighbor, a smile painted on her face, Ivory and him trailing close behind.

“Hello Mrs. Hemming!” Ivory greeted her. “How are you?”

The old woman looked up from her garden beds at the three teens and looked taken aback for a moment, before regaining her serious demeanor and clearing her throat.

“Not quite well, I’m afraid,” She frowned deeply. “Some psycho decided to murder my petunias!”

“Or dear!” Tally cried in mock sympathy, “Whoever would possibly do such a thing!?”

She shook her head. “I’ve no clue. Thank you for your support, but I can solve this myself. Good day.”

“Yes, you too…” Ethan trailed off quietly.

Tally burst out laughing the moment they crossed the street.

“ ‘Some psycho decided to murder my petunias!’ “ She mimicked in a pitch perfect voice to Mrs. Hemming’s British accent.

Ivory shook her head. “You know she’s going to find out it was us.”

“Us? It was Ethan!”

Ethan looked up, his large glasses bouncing forward.

“Huh?”

Ivory patted his shoulder. “We know it was an accident. You’ve never played volleyball.”

“Sure,” Tally snickered, punching Ethan’s shoulder playfully.

“Come on,” He smiled shyly. “Let’s get back to Tally’s house.”
