POEM STARTER

‘Whispers that come in the night often carry further than those in the day.’

Write a poem with this as the opening line. What imagery comes to mind from this line – and what further themes could be explored from there?

Rumors

Whispers that come in the night

Often carry further than those in the day

Propelled forward by mystery

The air of wondrous deceit

And further spurred on by the cold

Speaking louder than shouts at dawn

For the time when crime is high

Is also when secrets spread their wings

Finding new ears to nest in

So rumors do spread
