The Burden of Memory
Write a poem that could have this as its title.
The Veil
Whiter than I remember,
your fingers lifted the veil
upon my eyes.
What do you see into my smile?
For I’m still there, into our sunset
building soft castles of sand
devoted to the prince you never was.
And you’re still chasing the rainbow
of ribbons from my golden hair,
reciting eerie odes for the fairy
I never tried to be.
An addict of invented thoughts,
sweet memories false in their core,
that’s who I am.
Do you see more into my smile?
Gentler than I remember,
your fingers lifted the veil
upon my eyes.
And I started to hate you.
