“Moony I- I really see something between us…” Bramble had taken so long to muster up the courage to tell Moon and his eyes sparkled as he carefully took her hands in his. He smiled big although Moon couldn’t see.

“I don’t think we can… it wouldn’t be safe”

Bramble racked his brain for what could possibly be the reason for Moon not wanting this. What could possibly make this unsafe? He knew he could take care of himself and so did she but then what did she know?

“What- what do you mean? Hasn’t this been great just messing around and not having to worry about anyone hurting us?”

“It won’t stay great Bramble, it just- I can’t protect you from me if you’re with me like that-“

“What do you mean “with you like that?””

“I mean I can’t be romantically involved! I can’t love you like most people because you’ll get hurt!”

“Because you’ll hurt me?”

“Yes yes that’s it I’ll end up hurting you.” Moon didn’t like lying especially to Bramble but even explaining further could cause him harm. Bramble’s heart dropped and Moony could feel it as he slipped his hands away from hers. She broke her own heart in that moment and she knew she’d never get Bramble back, but he had to stay safe.
