Two friends in the park

realize they cannot leave

when the man says

“down the hill”

he left them to rot

they left in body bags

and years later

with fumbled evidence

and doubt and doubt and doubt

justice doesn’t feel like justice

when they didn’t find the man

behead him under the bridge

strip him bare

cover him with leaves

and leave him in the park
