A Hike To Calm The Soul

A pinky promise

A hike to the woods

The loud thumping

Of heavy horse hoofs

Weights on his shoulder

His tears flood the room

He closes his eyes

And falls asleep soon

As he awakes

Regret fills his bones

He stretches and crys

Longing for home

She grabs his hand

Shaky and wet

He looks to the side

And grabs a fishing net

A fun fishing trip

It's what was hoped to be

As she leads him to the forest

He gasped as he fought to see

Thick cloth

Heavy and brown

Wrapped tightly around his crown

As his face teared up and into a frown

Heavy horse hoofs

Covered the trails

And she left him there

To be smashed like the snails

Sadly he sighed

He sniffed up his sorrow

And bit his tongue

As he waited for tomorrow

The reporters soon came

Through thick and muddy terrain

To see his body

And rivers of blood mixed with rain

They write their stories

All false and a mess

But it brought no despair

Or at least not to the press

“Lost in the fog

Alone in the deep

Bound by a promise

That he couldn't keep”

They're stories outrageous

And simply not true

But not even the man with the story

Could tell you

Why it had happened

And on such sunny day

Why she had done that

And took him away
