POEM STARTER

Write a poem casually and nonchalantly reflecting on a hugely important event.

What kind of language could portray this tone even when the content is important?

A Casual End

It’s easy to give up on the rest of your life,

It’s easy not to care,

It’s easy to say you’ll change,

I guess it’s easy til you’re scared.

It’s hard to stand up straight,

It’s hard to watch you go.

It’s hard to stop the pain,

So hard you’ll never know.

I’ll do it if I want,

I’ll do it when I’m done.

I’ll do it when the lights go out in Hollywood

It could be drugs or just a gun.

I wish that things were different,

I wish that things would change,

I wish I thought I could succeed,

But I’m drowning in a never ending rain.

If only I’d been stronger,

If only I’d been smart,

If only I could go back in time,

I just want to restart.

Sometimes things just can’t be fixed,

Sometimes things go too far.

Sometimes there’s nothing you can do,

Sometimes you win the battle but go on to lose the war.
