Battle Grounds
The ground rumbled as the creature approached our camp, moving faster and faster. Our soldiers while in a panic, picked up their guns and prepared to open fire.
“Everyone back up!” Our captain shouted, gesturing to move away.
In the back were hoards of these spider-looking creatures. Our crew desperately shot at the creature. As we moved more towards North, the creature had begun to get slower by the moment.
I reloaded my weapon, glancing at the horror sight behind me. There was still a crowd of these things, we can’t possibly get rid of them all. The clouds covered the sky like a blanket was on top of the sky, blocking the sun out.
“I don’t think we can get rid of them all..” I mumbled as I opened fire.
“You’re right..” A fellow soldier chimed in.
One by one, slowly, we got rid of about 10 of these things in about half an hour. But that wasn’t enough to clear things. We had to resort to the last thing.
A few days ago, these robotic suits were made, specifically for outcomes like this; a failed lab experiment that resulted in overpopulation. Now look at this land, which was once a forest, is now a depressing battle field. Soldiers left and right were being left behind, in their deathbed to soon perish. And for those who can stand their ground, won’t survive. We slowly slipped on the suits and headed for the battle field. A lot of soldiers had not survived this tragedy, but now we need to bring the peace back before it gets worse.
Soon, every soldier had the suits on, and once again, we all opened fire at the creature. The suit was much stronger than our guns, but it didn’t mean we were invincible. However, we did get more done. There were about a couple dozen more left to go. If we hadn’t had these suits, we wouldn’t have survived. Thankfully, we cleared those couple dozen creatures in what felt like minutes.
Looking at the deadly scene, I’m glad it’s over.
“Don’t celebrate too early, we don’t know how many are still left.” Captain said.
“Completely ruined my mood..” I mumbled.
I took one last glance at the battle field, feeling nothing but sadness every time I look at the helmets of the suit laying still on the ground.
“Cmon, let’s go.” A teammate said, as he slapped my back.
I nodded as I turned my back on the tragedy, never to see it again. Or I hope.
