Write a suspenseful scene, in a story of any genre.
You are writing a single scene, so you do not need to provide backstory or outcome, but your characters and plot should still make sense. Consider the elements of suspense, like pace, atmosphere, motivations, and stakes.
The Park Bench Confession
Larissa softy said like she’s sharing a secret
“You ever think about hurting someone, Lia?”
“What?” I was startled
Larissa laughed gently as I looked at her “Not like hurting hurting. Just.. I don’t know how to explain it. Making them shut up. People can be so annoying sometimes don’t you think?”
She picks a flower from the grass besides the bench and starts to slowly plucking the petals one by one. She doesn’t look at me when she says it.
“Sometimes I think I can get away with it too. I mean.. who would suspect me?” She smiled sweetly at me “I’m the nice popular girl everyone loves”
I laughed, unsure she looks at me wide eyed and innocent.
“I’m kidding, of course you know that right?” She said to me as her fingers crushed the flower stem slowly, deliberately until it split
