POEM STARTER
Submitted by Margaret Sok
“You’ve come back, but I no longer need you.”
Write a poem or short story including this line.
Help comes with hurt
I hear your whispers.
I know you are calling to me.
Screaming.
To get me to listen.
But the truth is there is no you.
The you I think exists is nothing but a collection of information I have absorbed.
You are just conditioning.
Conditioning in my mind to keep me afraid.
To keep me hoping and praying for better days.
Instead of actually living those better days
You have come back but I no longer need you.
I no longer need to be afraid.
I no longer need to beg for something more.
I no longer need to believe.
Because what I have discovered is enough to keep me going.
What I have discovered is that with awareness brings growth.
Where there is truth there are also lies.
Where there is love there is also fear.
Where there is joy there is also hate.
And where there is life there is also death.
Because of this I no longer need you.
I love you and I appreciate you.
But I no longer need you.
Because where there is help there is also hurt.
So when comes the moment that it's time to let go.
I bring back my peace and allow myself to grow.
