WRITING OBSTACLE
Submitted by Maranda Quinn
Show a powerful emotion – love, grief, rage - in a quiet, everyday moment.
Instead of writing a dramatic and drawn out scene, think about how subtle actions and sensory details can carry the weight of the feeling.
Classroom Crushing
I look at you and I swear every mystery of the universe falls into place
Every galaxy that is slowly dying starts to reform
The stars begin to shine again in your honour
The moon looks whiter than the pearls you have for teeth
The sun emits light for the sole purpose of making your skin glow
The teacher stands before the class
He begins to check attendance
When I hear your name I think of church bells ringing
I think of babies’s laughter and violin strings
I think of Adele’s perfect harmonies
And Beethoveen’s symphonies
But even they can’t create beauty
As palpable as that name
The teacher begins today’s lesson
“The American Civil War”
The only thing I want to study
Is the way your hand fits into mine
So why not take this chance
And together let’s make history
They say those who dont know it
Are damned to repeat it
But whoever knows you knows
You can never be replicated
You are perfect as you are
You are more than time, matter, or space can define
You are infinite
You are mine
