Ablaze
“Fuck- fuck!” Matteo shoved his hands in his pockets and prayed that his sweater wouldn’t soak through. He already had pools in his water in his sneakers. Andrew- Drew held his umbrella up but hung his head. He didn’t quite like being noticed, especially in the rain. He just hoped he’d make it home to his cats early enough that they wouldn’t be upset with him. Something or someone bumped into Matteo.
“Shit- uh- damnit- I’m sorry…” Drew met Matteo’s eyes.
“It’s- fine-“
“Are you sure? You look pretty drenched”
“Yeah I’m- I’m fine-“
“Where are you headed?”
“To the apartments up the hill?”
“I’m gonna go back there soon I just needed to grab some dumplings for home first- would you like some dinner?”
“Are you just offering because you feel bad or asking me out?”
Drew’s ears went red and it started to spread to his cheeks. “I mean- I don’t know…”
Matteo’s face softened a little.
“Uhm- just- because? Is that okay like does that make sense?”
He smiled a little. “Yeah it makes sense”
Drew scratched the back of his neck or at least pretended to. “Ready?”
“Ready. So dumplings? Is that your favorite?”
“Well- that and lo mein- vegetable lo mein? What’s your favorite…?”
“I like orange chicken and it usually comes with white rice but I really like the soggy broccoli at the bottom with the orange chicken- it’s pretty great”
He nodded a little. “That’s good too- hm-“
