WRITING OBSTACLE

Write a story about a police investigation that uses an unreliable narrator.

An unreliable narrator can make you suspect the truth of a story. Consider what perspective you would write it from, and which bits of information you would leave out to make the narrator seem untrustworthy.

Dinnertime

As expected that cops came the next morning. His job most likely called when he hadn’t showed up to work this morning, 5 days in a row was odd. “Sir, we just need to ask you a few questions regarding your husband” the policeman said. Thinking to myself, I want to say ‘he was tasty, what about him’ but instead I hid my chuckle. “Sure, come on in. Is everything ok” I responded “It looks like his office is worried that he hasn’t been in in five days and we were wondering if you heard from him, it’s odd that you had not called in him missing, are you aware of anything?” he went on and on, this was obviously his first day. It took everything in me to not laugh. “No officer, I thought he was on a work trip” I replied, trying to get him out of my house. The second I responded he heard a noise in the back room. He tries to walk around the house in search of the noise. Grabbing the hammer behind the closet door, I follow him quietly “I was just going to make dinner, please let me have you for dinner”.
