STORY STARTER

Write a scene where a character confesses their (unreturned) love for another.

The Door

I’ve found my way to his house. My love for him trailed me endlessly. I could feel my heart racing. Love, excitement, intensity. All crashing into one explosion.

I never did find the courage to knock. The door opened nonetheless. He peaked around the door as though I was some kind of freak.

“Can I… help you?” He speaks like we’re strangers. If I said yes, would I be a beggar? But if I said no, would I be a…

“I SAID.. Can. I. Help. You.”

Help me? Why yes you can. Hug me if you must and tell me how much you don’t want our love to die.

I’m not desperate, but for your love I’m crossing a line. A line where I’m not anticipating on turning back to once I cross. Can you keep up with that?

“I-“ I began to talk but nothing would prepare me for what was next to come.

“Listen to me when I say this. Stop following me. Stop talking to me. And most importantly, I don’t like you.”

“Because you love me?” I was so confused. I didn’t know what to do. The only boy I’ve ever loved was becoming a monster. I didn’t like that. No, not one bit. Love me. Please.. just love me. Want me.

“I don’t even know you.”

Those were his last words before his door slammed in my face.

The love that once trailed me found its place. In a well to die, where nobody else may come searching for the empty space.
