Open a horror or thriller story with the scene of a duck gently touching down in misty waters.

KILL THEM OR DIE TRYING

I could sense death upon us before it even happened. The twilight mist, The duck, a single being touching down in the stillness... those ripples in the unbroken water.. I remember that image the most. And somehow I know, Deep down further than anyone or anything else... It was the world or fate telling me everything had gone terribly wrong. The time was right... But the scene was all wrong, a nightmare building on the back of my anxiety plagued mind finally coming into fruitions...

The dealer's car rolled into the parking lot adjacent to the still lake with a single duck. It was a fancy oldsmobile, tinted out and looking dangerous. I handed to the breifcase to my wife. "Just set it down and make the exchange and then come back. Dont say anything."

"I got it." Beverly said with a weak smile. I could tell she was nervous. After all, we had never done a deal this big before, even if it was her idea.

She exited the car and I watched her stand outside in front. The oldsmobile opened and three men in suits with machine guns got out. They approached my wife. They took the case, inspected it. Then they gave her their own breifcase.

"Phew, all set." I thought, with a releif.

Suddenly as my wife turned, They opened fire on her, spraying her with bullets. Then turning the guns on me. I ducked out of instinct and held on as bullets riddled the car.

"No! NO! NOT LIKE THIS!" I yelled in blind rage. I pulled a revolver out of the glove compartment and fell out of the car, opening fire in their direction.

It was too late, they had the cash and the drugs and were speeding off, my wife laying lifeless on the pavement. I ran up to her tears in my eyes.

My wife looked at me terrified for a moment and then fell lifeless into my arms. It was all over now.. I didnt care who got in my way... I was going to kill them or die trying.
