Obsessed

Her breathing gets heavier as she crouches deeper into the brush. Her goal to not be seen.

She watches the house intensely, waiting.

Suddenly she snaps to attention, her eyes going wide, her lips parting slightly

There he is.

He’s locking the door and slowly making his way to the quiet street. His hair glows a deep auburn under the street lamp.

She swallows hard as she watches him turn and start walking down the street, away from her. She has to catch up, she can’t lose him!

She methodically removes herself from the brush, being careful not to make a sound. Keeping her eyes glued to him she slowly makes her way, staying in the shadows and quietly stepping around obstacles.

Suddenly he stops.

She dives and rolls out of view, her heart pounding in her chest.

She waits a moment listening intently for his next move, letting out a low breath when she hears his footsteps resume.

That was to close she was almost caught, she scolds herself for being sloppy and following to closely. She’s better than this.

She peaks over the fence she had hidden behind and is filled with a deep despair when she sees him entering a vehicle at the corner.

The despair quickly turns to rage when she sees the woman in the drivers seat.

How dare he! After everything she’s done for him! All the gifts she’d sent him, the letters, the time she had invested in them. Now he’s just throwing it away for some whore.

Oh well, she thinks as she takes out her phone. It’s a good thing I slipped a tracker on him last week. She quickly navigates through her phone to pull up a map with a moving green dot.

Got him, she thinks, triumphantly.

She stands and brushes herself off quickly before running to her hidden car a few blocks back. She shoves the key in the ignition and tears away from the curb.

Before she can speed off her car is illuminated by flashing lights. She curses under her breath and contemplates what she should do. If they search her vehicle she’ll be detained for sure, but maybe if she can play it cool she’ll be let off.

she slowly pulls over, confidence flowing through her. She’s done nothing wrong she would be just fine.

There’s a tap at her window and she rolls it down, revealing a short female officer. Great, she hated dealing with women.

The officer shines a flashlight into the car. “Can I ask why you were pulling out like a bat out of hell this late at night?”

She looked innocently at the officer, “I’m sorry officer I didn’t realize I was driving any particular way.”

The officer seems interested in her phone, which is still open on the tracking app and sitting in a cradle on her dashboard.

“You following someone tonight?” The woman asks, her voice becoming increasingly suspicious. “I don’t see that app used much unless you’re hunting someone down.”

She swallows hard, realizing her mistake. “Well, uh, you see I um, I’m trying to see what my boyfriend is up to.” She says quickly trying hard to sound convincing.

“ok, license and registration please.” The officer says, holding out a hand.

She pushes the identification into the officers hand and sits back. She watches closely as the woman walks back to her cruiser.

She waits what feels like hours when the officer finally comes back to the window. “Ma’am I’m gonna need you to step out of the car.”

“What!? Why?” She said becoming upset.

“Because you have a restraining order and have now violated your probation as well.” The officer said coolly, opening the door. “Now exit the vehicle.”
