dreams
My eyes tire
And my shoulders sag
I had a dream once
And I want it back
As a kid I aimed for the stars
Now I’m wondering if I’ll make it as far
As graduating college,
Earning a degree
Why do we do this?
To make us happy?
Our futures are a gamble
We simply throw the dice
It seems weird to me that we are playing a game of Life
In reality
Things seem so real they seem fake
And suddenly everything feels too hard
When will our youth get a break?
Get a bachelors degree, and then don’t stop
Head for a master’s
Hell why not
Continue on,
Go for a PhD
Let’s see what you’ve really got.
12 years of college gone,
I know what I’m going to be
But I don’t know who I am
At the top of the mountain,
I wish I could fall
So I could climb back up again.
Find myself along the way
Head for a musical career
Instead of something stereotypical.
I wish I could be 7 again
So I could find
The dreams that were lost
In a forgotten land
If desires are a flame
Then I am a wildfire
I had all my cards then, a sleight of hand
I don’t have a dream right now
And it scares me so
What do I have to show
For 14 years of being me?
WHAT IS MY DREAM?
