Lovely
Moon faced up from kneeling by a half built firepit. Nikta fluttered over and sat down next to her. “I could heal your eyes it would be very easy…”
“I’m sure you’re ugly. No thank you.”
Nikta’s eyes glowed for a moment. “It isn’t wise to mess with immortals…”
Moon shrugged; “it wouldn’t be the first time.”
“Then you’ve had your fair share of curses?”
“Yes, actually.”
“Hm. Interesting…”
“What?”
“Just how little you seem to care about how many curses you have”
“They were all until death so they’re gone now”
“And how’s that?”
“None of your business.”
“Fine. How long does it take to build a fire?”
“How long does it take for an idiot to take a hint?”
“Too long I guess- what are we to eat?”
“Why don’t you go catch us something? Rabbit is good”
“Fine then I’ll be a bird-“
“Good and if you can find some dandelions those are good too”
Nikta nodded and rolled her eyes. This foolish mortal would pay for her attitude. She fluttered off to find something to eat; hopefully some berries and roots to have along with whatever meat she’d find. She grabbed some dandelions as requested, then kept an eye out for something more edible. Nikta found blueberries and a similar berry that looked and felt almost the same. She didn’t know what it would do but she hoped it would be at least a little poisonous, especially if it was enough to kill Moony. Nikta walked back with them and found a shelter being made of branches.
“I am not sleeping in a stick hut.”
“Then sleep outside?”
Nikta made a face. “I found-“
“I know- blueberries and dandelions and hopefully some rabbit?”
“No luck-“
“Shit- ow- shit…”
“What is it?”
“I’ve got a bunch of splinters but I can’t get them out”
“Let me see them-“
Moon hesitantly showed Nikta her hands.
“Oh- goodness-“ She used her sharp nails to get each splinter out, taking her time to make sure every piece out. Moony barely flinched, despite the pain. She breathed in the scent that Nikta brought with her. It was strangely herbal but she liked it, it felt like a hug but the good kind.
“Thanks…”
“We have to wash them”
“Okay…” Moon grabbed a bucket of water and dunked her hands in it, rinsing them off.
“That- is not- Nevermind-…”
“It’s easier and we don’t have time-“
“Fine- may I light the fire?”
“Sure?”
Nikta lit the fire with a touch of her fingertip and smiled at it.
