WRITING OBSTACLE

Write a dual point-of-view scene in which the right part of the brain and the left are disagreeing about a topic.

Think about the characteristics associated with each side.

Who Is Better?

“You just don’t understand do you?” Says the left.

Right side smirks and explains, “you are too logical. Think creatively, see what’s not there. Don’t focus on the facts, because facts can’t always support everything. Risk things even if you don’t know if it’s going to go well. Like for example we have music. Music is beautiful even without words because it can show a story of what the person has gone through. It has so many emotions that all come together to create a masterpiece. You get to risk it and make the music louder or softer and it can be all up to you. Or in art you create the peice that no one else can change. It doesn’t have to make sense to other artists but all that matters is that you know. You know that there is a reason behind it, and you get to choose it. That is what matters.”

The left is staring at a white board and illustrates, “there are so many things that could go right and wrong. Like on tests it all matters on the facts. You can’t just test random equations. You have to know exactly what is going on and what is the specific equation for the problem. Decision making is all about logic and what you know is right and wrong. You can’t make mistakes in English tests or else there are consequences. There are specific ways you can speak and write. You can’t just write random words together because there is specific ways to make a sentence. You might be right about art and music but not about tests. You can’t just take guesses.”

The right side started using hand gestures, “I guess you’re right about tests. You didn’t bring up writing books though. When you write books there is a lot of guesses and creativity being used. You are able to make whatever story you want with whatever information and ending you choose. Then it’s all up to you, and there is not really a point where you can mess it up.”

The left side started considering, “if you think about it. We each have our own ways and ideas that work for different things. Sometimes there might be arguments with logic and risk, but other than that we can work together well.”

The right side started wondering, “I think that I work better with creativity and you work better with logic. We can still work together though because sometimes we both have questions that only the other person can answer.”

The left side spoke, “Neither of us is worse and neither of us is better than each other.”

The right side spoke, “We are different in our own ways but we work together to create beautiful contrast and harmony.”
