Create a story about an actor whose distinction between work and real life is blurring. When does an act become reality?
A Little Lie
“Cut!! Come on Miles!” The dirrectors angry voice carried across the small set of a small coffee shop. “It’s simple, you need to cry a little. She cheated on you. It’s not just all funny”
Miles groaned looking at the cute black haired woman’s anxious smile before him. This was annoying him over anything. It was all unrealistic writing bullshit, no chubby gamer dude would be stealing a gym guys girl.
“I can’t deal with this writing? What goddess of a girl wants some fat guy?” Miles groaned, reaching for the stupid hat he’d needed to wear.
“Shut it!” Bryson the dirrector groaned looking back at the writer a skinny blonde intern, and the fairly large millionaire man behind her.
The guy who had this shitty romcom written.
“Do you want to get kicked off your second ever spot at real acting?” Bryson smacked the hat out his hand. “You can do this shit. I believe in you bro”
“Act like it’s about Beth” Miles nearly slugged his ex roommate and friend, just for putting the thought in his head.
“Beth wouldn’t do no shit like that”
Hours later he was parking his bike outside the gym down the road from his small apartment. Of course it was packed, so he parked on the walkway like usual.
“_We need to talk? How was shooting_?” The text came through from Beth as he set his helmet down.
“_You headed to the gym. I totally woulda joined you_” A separate text came through from Stacy his very anxious new costar.
“_How about dinner tonight and we can talk_?” He shot back quickly. “_Shooting was blehh” _
The other he figured it was best to ignore. It’s bad enough he had kiss and have partially nude scenes with. But he knew Beth wouldn’t be comfortable with them hanging out after.
“_I’m coming down there quick. Can you meet me in the parking lot_?” Beth’s text seemed erratic and totally out of character.
“_Is something up_?” He sent back, sitting down on the bench sweat pouring off of him from the two hour run he’d just finished.
No reply…. No read. “_Maybe a family member got hurt or something_” He thought to himself, grabbing a towel and heading out into the summer shower. “Great” he mumbled looking over at his bike.
Stepping into the suv, towel messily drapped over his head and neck. Beth’s face seemed horified and her phone kept buzzing and vibrating. She looked as if she’d been crying for the last hour or so.
“Is one of your family members hurt or something?” Miles took a shot at the big secret, not fully aware.
Then she turned, her long brunet hair tied up in a single wrapped bun. Something he’d never seen her do before. They had been together for four years prior and never… not even cleaning at home.
“I’ve been cheating on you… with my doctor friend..” The cold stare was instant from her, but he chuckled a bit.
“Did Bryson put you up to this?” He shook his head with a cocky smile. “He’s redicules when it comes to getting me to be better”
“I’m not joking…. He’s got three kids… and one on the way with me…” Now she was looking out the window. “I tried to tell you… before…”
“Well maybe you shoulda tried a bit harder….” He retorted quickly but everything was numb, even his breathe was shallow. “Guess he got his secritary kink out”
“You’ll blow up with your acting anyway… won’t be time for me…” She quickly retorted. “I’m just a blip in your early life”
“The man’s got three kids; a wife, and a carrer. Yet your worried about not having a place in my life?” Anger started to erupt from everywhere at once, his temp flared. “It’s a bullshit cop out, but I hope your happy”
Without a word he tossed the towel at her and escaped into the rain. It was boiling on his skin like he’d become the human torch. “_How is this all happening_” he sighed to himself, stepping onto the bike without grabbing his gear out the locker.
“_Done with the gym? Want to grab a coffee_?” He texted Stacy through watery eyes. Nearly hanging on for dear life when he read the quick text.
“_Sorry Frank showed up. He’s being a dick_”
“Ok” He quickly texted before shooting off into the rain on the bike.
“You drove that thing here in the pouring rain?” Frank’s dad bod was in full swing, beer belly showing in his white wife beater.
Funny how it worked on him, he’d tossed Stacy around a couple of times prior. Everyone on set knew it.
Stacy wasn’t looking at him as she opened the door.
“Frank I told you to go. You have no right to be here” Stacy was holding her ground, nearly covered by the wooden door of her apartment. “Please don’t make another scene”
“I’ve been riding since I was young. Rain doesn’t bother me” Miles added in, taking the sixteen steps two at a time. “Is there a problem?”
“Why not mind your own business boy” Miles rubbed his temple a bit, watching the man move down a step or two in his dirrection. “You her new guy or something?”
“Nothing like that. Just a coworker. Wanted to go over lines” Miles sighed and put up his hands. “I’ve already had a rough day. Can we just go about our days and not let this get crazy”
“Well turn around and get back on your mo-ped. Won’t be no trouble” He shrugged, looking back at Stacy. “Just let me talk to my girl in peace”
“It’s a freaking Gixxer 1000, not a fucking scooter” A low growl escaped his jaws.
“Miles it’s cool. We can do that another day…” She mumbled shyly, still hiding behind the door.
“Someone’s a bit pissy”
“Are you sure?” Miles was focused on the sunken look on her face.
“She’s sure. I got something to give her anyway” The cocky voice matched with the grin on his face, made him uneasy.
“Nah it’s cool.” Miles started for the door, Stacy’s eyes got huge.
Sadly watching her face made him miss the fist that was coming at him. Which connected to the side of his face with a overhand right hook. “The suckers punch” his old boxing coach had said many a times. Pain crawled across his right cheek, a metallic taste filled his mouth but he’d had enough.
“Ohh my god” Stacy started out the door towards him.
“Fuck you!” Miles growled, throwing back a quick left hand jab, followed by a right handed uppercut.
Which knocked her ex down the stairs onto his annoying arse. Shit eatting grin no longer present on his red face. Surprise had taken its place, Miles knew anger was to follow.
“Just go home Frank!” Stacy shouted out. “You can go home too” Now she was looking at Miles.
The next morning the scene went over perfectly the first time. Bryson was beyond amazed but Stacy was off, so the make up sex sceen wasnt happening today. Which really didn’t bother Miles much. Sitting in his trailer, trying to reapply the small amount of makeup to hide where the punch had landed. Stacy stepped in.
“I’m really sorry about last night. Didn’t expect him to hit you like that”
“Yeah well…” He rubbed the back of his neck. “I’ve heard he’s done stuff like that before”
“Sadly… I can help with that make up” She hopped up the few steps and was ready with a small makeup bag.
“Guess your good at this?” Miles questioned but she snapped and he closed his eyes.
Powder started to fill the air and he choaked a bit at first.
“Done!” A smile hung on her face as he opened his eyes.
His face was spotless now, color matched perfectly. Yet instead of his face, he was focused on the bright green eyes only an inch away. Then for a second day in a row he did something stupid. Reached out and kissed her full lips in a rage of passion.
“Uhhmmm” She pulled back, her face pinker then a a dragon fruit.
“That’s prefect! Glad yall are getting some practice in” Bryson said with a ear to ear grin. “Let’s get back to set”
“I’m sorry she did that to you…” Stacy said sheepishly.
“Yeah, me too” He shrugged. “Guess he just had something I didn’t”
“Your a catch. So nock that loser talk off” She giggled playfully. “And you were always going above and beyond for her. You don’t need to now”
“True”
“Best way to get over someone is to get under another” An old man walking by added in and they both gave each other a look of horror.
“Glad your not like that” She added in.
“What if he’s right” Now Miles was only a cats tail hair away from her face.
“Well why don’t you just kiss me and find out”
“Cut!! That’s was great. I love how well y’all did” Bryson jumped out of his chair and hugged them both. “Finally, we are cooking with gas. Thats enough for tonight. We start again tommorow”
Mile slipped out of his trailer and was on his bike when a hand was on his back.
“It doesn’t even look like a scooter” She giggled a bit and he turned.
“That’s what I was saying” He said probably a bit to quickly.
“Wanna get that coffee?”
“Maybe. I’m sorry about the kiss”
“Because of your girlfriend. It’s cool, like it never even happened” She tried to hide the small hurt look on her face but he seen it.
“No she left me for some doctor”
“That blows… makes sense why you were pissed yesterday huh. I’m sorry” She leaned in a bit. “But you can do better”
“Wanna go for a ride?”
“Guess the movie isn’t that far from real life” She giggled as she jumped onto the bike.
