It used to be so much easier

To forgive than to forget

I could let go of past hurts

While keeping wary of future ones

But as I get older

Bitterness has set in

I find myself holding on to grudges

The proverbial grumpy old man

This is the stereotypical progression

And if I follow the cliché

I won’t have to worry about forgiving

I’ll just forget

I went from forgiving to hard

And I’ll go from hard to soft
