That Rainy Night
This is not necessarily about love at first sight, but love at first conversation:
I turned my back on a rainy night
To, lonely, go indoors.
But a sweet “hello” from your voice
Made me stop and turn.
I had never spoken to you before that night,
But one quick word with you, I knew…
I need you.
It doesn’t matter how long it takes
Or how much pain I have to go through
To get back to you.
Because I was enthralled by your sweetness, your kindness, and your mind. Your voice like tinkling bells,
Your eyes like tiny fires, shimmering in the porch light.
It’s been six years since that rainy night.
And I still think of you often.
You’re different from the rest,
But I’m the same cookie-cutter mold of a modern man.
How do I break free?
How can I love you without breaking it like I always do?
I have no answer.
So I put my feelings in a poem
And a promise in a white-gold necklace
Hoping it will take some strain off my
Unstructurally sound heart.
