Laid out on the library floor

Blood dripping from out the door

The Maid was aghast

The Captain acted fast

As he phoned the police

Straight away.

The Vicar was struck

With an hefty iron hook

With a bloody mark on his face

A chalky mark drawn round

His resting place

The police set to their job

Despite the angry village mob

The detective was afoot

Walking in with his mutt

Sniffing here and there

The dog did find

Amongst the books

A clue that was left behind

A trodden leaf,

A possible thief

As a money tin

Was left ajar

The gardener did it.

Proclaimed a choir boy

If you hurry he won’t get far.

The gardener was caught,

The maid was fraught

As she stole a kiss earlier

Earlier that week

The police were relieved

The congregation

Aggrieved

But at least justice prevailed.
