The Burden of Memory
Write a poem that could have this as its title.
Why Does It Dawn On Me?
Why does it dawn on me,
When I try to forget it?,
Leaves me in misery,
Why can’t I abandon it?
Why does it dawn on me,
When skies are cloudless,
When I’m feeling like opal,
A colorful stone of hope?
It swallows me whole,
Surrounds me with dread,
A roach I can’t stomp onto,
As it grows, it spreads.
It’s all I can imagine,
Everything I see,
Makes me tear out my strands,
Makes my eyes bleed.
I’m lost in this burden,
This forest housing memories,
That haunt in pitch black,
Taping my mouth from screams.
_“Save me!”,_ but no one hears,
I’m left to fight alone,
I’m left to suffer the shame, hurt,
It’s everything I see.
Why does it dawn on me?
Why can’t I save myself,
From the sludge of thick gloom,
That’ll stick on my skin for days?
(Yesterday I hit my 100 day streak so yippee!!)
