The Soldier
He comes home
From active duty
To greet the woman
He Promised his life to
But as he approached her
He knew something was very wrong
She didn’t look happy to see him
Instead she looked
Bored
Like she had better things to do
The love the used to glow in her eyes
Was no longer there
She gives him a hesitant hug
But with no passion
Her touch seemed cold and lifeless
She says nothing as they get in the car
Where there once was softness
Now all had turned to stone
He didn’t know what was going on
He wanted to break through to her
But he just couldn’t figure out how
She seemed to be a different woman
Then the one he married
Some 15 years ago
Weeks went by and little changed
But the tension seemed to grow
He still couldn’t figure it out
He wanted to fix this
To prove himself
But he had no idea how
And it all came falling down
when a strange man
Shocked him with the words,
“You have been served.”
