POEM STARTER
I would be anything for you.
Write a non-romantic poem which contains this line.
The Shapeshifter
I would be anything for you.
Take my body as a fluid entity able to fit in whatever crevice you wish.
If you want water,
I will quench your thirst with the tears I’ve cried.
Molded to the glass—
The perfect specimen—I will not shatter.
I will act as the Phoenix,
Nest of fire consuming my plumage—
Cas was named after an angel but has a devil in his blood.
I backed into the corner,
Accepting my fate—
Making my flesh taste of oranges,
Reminding him of the groves he stalked for prey.
A lonely howl into the night.
He has wiped my slate
And left no trace of my existence,
Except a silhouette in the char as if preserving the crime scene.
But I am not gone—
I am of smoke and ash.
And of the wind,
Pushing the cold out of your atmosphere
So I can take my rightful place as the center beam,
Providing a heated gaze, lulling you into the sense that you are free to fly with other birds.
Freedom costs you.
And the price is my omnipresence.
What will you do when a gust is just a gust?
A tree is just a tree?
Or if the sunset is no longer a curtain call to end the day on a hopeful note?
And then you will call for me.
You will hear only my silence.
