Divergent- A Poem About Unearthing My ADHD
She’s a child who doesn’t mind wandering
Who likes to walk around the same path
Twenty
Thirty
Forty times
She’s a child who stacks dolls in a row
And then leaves them there
Bears
Babies
Breathe in and out
Because she panics
Things are abnormal
Not where she left them
In
Out
In
Out
But she’s already crying
It’s not a big deal
It’s not the end of the world
But it was
And it is
And it will be again
She’s a child who abandons
Starting things anew
Just to forget about them
Untouched
Unloved
Unfinished
And she moves on
She’s a failure
A loose screw
Mom says how will you survive
I don’t know
I don’t know
Mom, I don’t know
She’s no longer a child
She lives on her own
College
Careers
Rent struggling to be paid
But that child is still there
She never left
And she is still in control
Distractions
Ramblings
Abandonment
I hate her often
I wish she were gone
So I could take the wheel
And steer
Row
Float
Safely to normalcy
But what is normalcy without her
There is none
Without that girl
I am
No one
