Submitted by A.Brosien

A princess has been waiting in her tower for her Prince Charming to save her. But after 30 years, enough is enough, and she decides she's going to save herself.

Your Fault

I thought today would be the day. It's my thirtieth birthday, if I were to be saved by my true love, it would be today. I'm so sick and tired of waiting for a man that I'm supposed to love that I've never even met. It's all in the profecy father told me when I was little; I get trapped in a tower, and I'll be saved by my true love soon after. Well, it's been much longer than 'soon'. No, I'm getting out today.

I run to my room to grab several dresses from my closet. I tie them together as tightly as I can. I won't be needing them if I won't be rescued. I run to the window, tie one end of my rope of dresses to a sturdy post, and throw the other end out. I shudder as I realize how far down the groud really is, but I remind myself that I need to do this. I've been waiting around for thirty years, this is something that I need to do for myself.

I shakily grab the dresses, and step out. The dresses pull tight on the wooden post, but I keep a firm grip. I slowly begin to climb down, and all I can think about is how relieved I am. I'm finally nearing the ground. I'll see father again, and my little sister. I'll get to see what the world is like now after so long. I'll get to live.

Before I know it, my feet are on the Earth. I made it. I let out a deep sigh as I collect my thoughts. After a moment of just standing, I turn and begin walking away from that awful tower but before I can walk more than three steps, I stop myself. I see a man in poorly fitted armour, no helmet, and a rusted sword.

I speak loudly. "Who are you?" It feels weird to speak to someone.

"I'm Lester, " The half-knight responded. "Who are you?"

"Holly, Princess of the Garden Kingdom."

Before I can continue, Lester cut me off, almost shouting. "You're the Garden Princess?"

"Uh huh."

"Oh, shoot!" He cried out as he dropped his sword and sulked like a whining todler. "Oh shoot, oh shoot, oh shoot!"

"What on Earth is the matter?"

"You're here! Why aren't you in your tower?"

I pause for a moment, still trying to put the peices together. "... I saved myself."

"You weren't supposed to save yourself! That was my job!"

My eyes widen. It's him. This whining, crying, flimsy mess of a knight was prophesied to be my savior and true love? Absolutely not. "You're my prince?"

He continued to whine, ignoring me as he kicked rocks.

"Answer me!" I yell as I step towards him. "Are you my prince?"

"Yes! Yes, I'm your prince."

"Well, what the hell took you so long?" I continue to shout.

He stepped back. "Well, my father said that we'd marry once I saved you, and I just wasn't... ready for a commited relationship...?"

My jaw drops. I just turn and walk away as my eye violently twitches.

I wasted thirty years of my life because some childish prince wasn't ready for me?
