Learning The Eternal Presence Of The Living Llama Of Light
It began the day I was born
Speeding car, stress and drama
Pulling over, gave birth in a field
standing there, a staring llama
My parents look at him
Llama looks back
They stare and stare
Then that was that
Second grade talent show
Stage fright, laughter and spewing
Running away, hiding outside
Next to the slide, llama chewing
I look at him
Llama looks back
We stare and stare
Then that was that
High school football playoffs
Seconds left, tense and loud
Running the ball, I look up
On row 10, llama in the crowd
I look at him
Llama looks back
We stare and stare
Get tackled with a *crack!*
Years now in a wheelchair
Always lonely, sleeping and sitting
Watching the power ball, win one billion
cuts to a commercial, llama spitting
I look at him
He looks back
We stare and stare
Then that was that
Lying on my death bed
Family around, sad and crying
Behind them, llama stares
Irate, I swear I’m not lying
I look at him
He looks back
We stare and stare
Then it all goes black
Spinning around and falling
Colors piercing, orange, blue, red
Bubbling up, my skin is lifted
Landing in liquid, the land of the dead
Out of smoke he approaches
Trotting slowly, chewing and staring
Noses touching, he gazes inside
Replacing skin, it’s fur I’m wearing
He bites me and I change
Body shaking, new hoofs and snout
Body morphing, long ears and tail
Chewing something, I spit it out
He leads me through a cloud
Speeding stars, thought and being
Entering a moment, we arrive at a field
Witnessing a birth, it’s me I’m seeing
I turn and see he’s gone
indifferent llama, calm yet exact
watching, I see my parent’s love
Baby turning, we make eye contact
I look at him
He looks back
We stare and stare
Then that was that
