Peeved

“How can you say that?!”

Mara Louis huffed, and thrust her hands in the air, “Because it’s a rational statement, Jackson! Who likes pineapple on pizza?!”

“I do! And clearly millions of other humans, unlike yourself, who clearly is not even nearly sane enough to be called one.” Jackson Davis’ cheeks turned red as he glared in utter fury.

Mara pressed a hand against her chest, feigning an apology. “Oh well I’m sorry my superiority is to much for your tiny little mind-which, might I add, only got a ‘C’ on our Spanish quiz.” A smug smirk now adored the girl, who stepped forward, just a few inches below Jackson’s head. “In contrast to my perfect one-hundred percent score.” Every letter had been drawn out and Mara knew she struck a nerve. She swore she saw steam spew from his ears.

“You know what-I’m done with you! I’m so done with you constantly trying to one-up me and putting me down! I’m sick of trying to contain you and your craziness,” he took a breath and his chest heaved, “And for the last time, pineapple does NOT belong on pizza!!”

The two glared at each other with powerful fury. Both nearly about to strangle the other. They would never admit how stupid this was. Or ever mention it again. But they both know these are the things that make their friendship stronger.

Even though they continued to bicker for the rest of the evening, and nearly broke Mara’s mother’s vase in the process... And nearly tripped over the dog... And Mara’s brother.

Yes, bickering was a dangerous game. But theirs was a nuclear bomb. Just waiting to be set off and take casualties with them. Even if it’s just a vase. A very expensive vase.
